Setup for RSS Feeds on the Kindle
While not many people realize it, it is now possible to read RSS news feeds, email, web pages, and FanFiction on your Kindle via the use of a free service called KindleSend.
It's is a new content distribution service that automatically downloads RSS news feeds, email, webpage's, etc; formats them for the Kindle, and sends them by either 3G or WIFI at the time and day that you specify.
Kindle Send can currently send any of the following:
  • Kindle RSS Feeds
RSS news feeds are automatically downloaded, processed, and combined into a single document specifically formatted for reading on the Amazon kindle. You can choose from a wide range of existing RSS news feeds or you can create your own custom RSS news feed.
  • Kindle Newspapers
In addition to books, Amazon provides newspaper subscriptions but the cost of a subscription can be pretty high, i.e. over $20 USD per month. Thankfully you can get the most popular news subscriptions for free; free subscriptions such as the Guardian, BBC News, etc.
  • Kindle Email
Your last 50 emails are downloaded, combined into a single document and formatted specifically for reading on the Kindle. You can't send email but you can read your email on the move, on the train, or foreign countries
  • FanFiction.Net on the Kindle
If you have a FanFiction.Net account you can sync all of the stories in your favorites list to your Kindle. When a new chapter for one of your favorite stories is detected, the story on your Kindle is automatically updated with the new chapter.
  • Instapaper
If you use the popular Instapaper service to mark web pages for later reading, you can integrate it with KindleSend. Any read later pages are automatically downloaded to your Kindle upon the next sync.
  • Send webpages to your Kindle
You can send the contents of a webpage to your kindle. It removes any advertising/headers, and sends you the core content of a page. Optionally you can choose to monitor a webpage for changes, so if the page is updated, the page on your Kindle is also updated. This is ideal for keeping your work/school timetable up-to-date or keeping important information with you.
  • Scheduled Kindle RSS, Email, & Webpage Deliveries
Full scheduled syncing is supported, so you can control how and when RSS, email, & news are sent to your Kindle. For Example if you leave home at 7am, your Kindle can be updated at 6:30am so that the latest RSS, email, & news are ready and waiting for you to read on your commute to work/school.
The KindleSend service is very easy and simple to setup/use. Upon registration you are guided through the setup process. After setup you browse through a list of sources and Kindle RSS feeds, and simply add the ones you are interested in; the process of syncing your Kindle is done behind the scenes. To sync your Kindle you can either setup automated schedules, or click the Sync button in the upper left part of the screen.
